Life has gotten complicated. In September, every group I belong to --- choirs, professional organizations, volunteer groups --- picked up where they left off last spring, and I've been running my feet off. Apparently, I agreed to a lot of projects over the summer while things were slow. Now, of course, they are all starting up at the same time. Aargh!
We've also started a major home renovation project: restoring the original master bedroom in our 1910 house. Plaster chunks, sawdust, piles of lath and two-by-fours and drywall all over the place. And the noise is seriously freaking the cats.
Like all old-house projects, we've enjoyed (? there must be a better word) frequent encounters with the Mushroom Factor. Everything we do exposes something weird that we have to deal with, and the timeframe for the project keeps getting longer and longer. At some point, I'll set up a photo gallery for the project. The shots of 16-foot drywall sheets flying in the second floor window are impressive.
Needless to say, there's been precious little time for non-essential activities. Even essential ones have sometimes fallen through the cracks. Except for giving two workshops in NYC over Columbus Day weekend, I haven't even been keeping up with the marketing plan for my business. That's BAD. And, most days, I haven't even had the energy to do much non-work-related reading. Take a look at my booklist in the right-hand column. Only four books since October 11. Pitiful. Downright pitiful for someone who usually averages 3-5 novels a week plus a scattering of random non-fiction.
