Today I persuaded Andy to join me on a trail walk. I suggested one of the shorter trails at Ellison Park; he countered with Corbett's Glen. I'd never heard of it, but the online descriptions sounded interesting: Town of Brighton - Parks and naturalhighs.net.
We started off at 7:30 AM, following this online map.
We
parked along Glen Road (first left on Rte 441, just past the I-490 exit
ramp), and walked down the hill to the tunnel. The road is a private
drive to a large house, but there is a right-of-way easement for access
to the park.
| We turned right at the end of the tunnel to reach the park entrance. It's marked "Pedestrians Only", but we saw bicycle tracks on the dirt and gravel path. |
The first part of the path runs right along side Allens Creek, a tributary of Irondequoit Creek. There is a waterfall at the end of the tunnel, just before the entrance to the park. | ![]() |
![]() | There's an information board near the picnic table that shows a detailed map and gives additional information about the park and nature trail. [Dang. Sorry about the glare. Forgot my polarizing filter.] |
Andy and I started along the trail. | ![]() |
![]() | As usual, I frequently lagged behind Andy because I stopped to take pictures. |
The park is a riot of mixed trees and bushes on both sides of the path. We saw oak, maple, willow and several other tree species along the way, interspersed with shrubs and wildflowers. Except for the path itself and a few small clearings with grass and benches, the area is attractively semi-wild. | ![]() [continued in the next post] |
